Subject: polar bear in a snowy landscape
Support and technique: watercolor and oil on paper. Done
with the "frost technique" to obtain the ice effect in some
areas of the pictorial surface, this technique consisted of placing the
actually cold the painting while it is still fresh to then work on it
subsequently. This effect was invented by the painter Pancaldi e
it recurs in many of his works, especially in the maturity phase.
Author: Gaetano Pancaldi (Piumazzo di Castelfranco Emilia, 1922-2014).
The representation of nature and daily life were among the artist's favorite subjects, who was very active and well-known in the Modena area due to his activity as a poster designer for the Communist Party of Modena and the numerous exhibitions he held. A tireless painter, Pancaldi worked with unchanged passion until recent years.
