Subject: abstract

Support and technique: watercolor on cardboard. Created with the "frost technique" to obtain the ice effect in some areas of the pictorial surface, this technique consisted of placing the still fresh painting in the actual cold and then working on it subsequently. This effect was created by the painter Pancaldi in the early 1960s and refined throughout his career until reaching the extraordinary results of the paintings of the 1980s and 1990s.
Author: Gaetano Pancaldi (Piumazzo di Castelfranco Emilia, 1922-2014).
The representation of nature and daily life were among the artist's favorite subjects, who was very active and well-known in the Modena area due to his activity as a poster designer for the Communist Party of Modena and the numerous exhibitions he held. A tireless painter, Pancaldi worked with unchanged passion until recent years. Biography available on the internet.

Medium and painting surface: watercolor on paper painted with "Ice technique" that was invented by Pancaldi to obtain the ice effect on some part of the painting surface, this technique consists of literally freezing the fresh wet painting and subsequently work on it again. He used this technique starting from the early '60's and kept working on it for all his life until the extraordinary results of the 80's and 90's ice paintings.
