Subject: view of Mantua at dawn, a place particularly loved by the author and recurring in his production, treated with the "frost technique".
Support and technique: watercolor on cardboard. Created with the "frost technique" to obtain the ice effect in some areas of the pictorial surface, this technique consisted of placing the still fresh painting in the actual cold and then working on it subsequently. This effect was invented by the painter Pancaldi and occurs in many of his works, especially in the mature phase.

The representation of nature and daily life were among the artist's favorite subjects, who was very active and well-known in the Modena area due to his activity as a poster designer for the Communist Party of Modena and the numerous exhibitions he held. A tireless painter, Pancaldi worked with unchanged passion until recent years.
